  • 1814: In order to stop Jacob Brown and his American invaders, General Phineas Riall head toward the Niagara River during the War of 1812.

  • 1823: The Battle of Lake Maracaibo happens in Maracaibo, Venezuela. During this battle, Admiral Prudencio Padilla defeats the Spanish Navy.
  • 1847: After traveling for seventeen months, 148 Mormons are led into Salt Lake Valley by Brigham Young. They will eventually establish Salt Lake City.
  • 1847: L The rotary-type printing press is invent by Richard March Hoe.
  • 1864: General George Crook and his Union forces are defeated by Confederate General Jubal Early at the Battle of Kernstown during the American Civil War.

  • 1943: Operation Gomorrah starts on this date. American planes bomb the city of Hamburg in Germany during the day as British and Canadian planes bomb the city by night. By the time the operation ends in November, over nine thousand tons of explosives have been dropped. This resulted in the destruction of over 280,000 buildings and the deaths of more than 30,000 people.
  • 1969: Apollo 11 safely lands in the Pacific Ocean.
