The Top 10 Important Holidays In June That No One Should Dare Miss
June is a month that transitions from Spring to Summer, so naturally it’s a time when people begin to plan their vacation days and getaway trips. It’s also a month when people are looking to take more personal time for themselves, and one way for them to do that is by celebrating one of the rich holidays that can be found in June. Unfortunately, that’s not as easy as it sounds because there are hundreds of different holidays that can be found over the course of this month. That’s why we figured that all of our readers could probably use a guide to help them decide which holidays are the most important.
In this post, we’re going to explore the Top 10 Important June Holidays that No One Should Miss. Although we don’t expect every person to celebrate every single holiday on this list, we do think that people will benefit by celebrating several of them. Now, before people start reading about the 10 holidays, we would like to say that we followed our own strict criteria when choosing these holidays. We wanted to avoid picking religious holidays, because they are personal to each group of people, and we wanted to choose holidays with either the widest possible appeal or the ones that addressed a particular safety issue. With that being said, let’s explore the following holidays.
Children’s Day (Multiple Date)
This is a holiday that’s observed by people all over the world. Although it’s observed during other months in many parts of the world, it’s observed on June 1st in China, Laos, Cabo Verde, Armenia, Romania, and several other countries. In the United States, it’s observed on the second Saturday in June. No matter what date it’s observed, however, it’s an important day that raises awareness about the needs of children and the challenges they face.
National Heimlich Maneuver Day (June 1st)
It doesn’t matter where a person lives in the world, knowing how to do the Heimlich Maneuver is potentially a lifesaver. This technique has been around since the mid-1970s and has saved thousands of people’s lives over the years. We never know when a person is going to start choking, so it’s important to know how to perform this maneuver.
Wear BLUE Day ( The Friday During Men’s Health Week)
Currently, there are over 4 billion men in the world and they make up approximately 50.42% of the world’s population. That’s why we felt that it was important to put this holiday on our list. Wear Blue Day is a holiday that raises awareness about men’s health by participants wearing blue. It’s a way to support men and advocate for cures for common diseases that affect men such as prostate cancer, stroke, testicular cancer, and heart disease.
National SAFE Day (June 4th)
This is the one holiday on our list that goes against our holiday criteria for this post. We say that because this is a holiday that encourages people to properly store their firearms in a safe place where their children can’t get to them. Although gun safety is important regardless of what country a person lives in, in the United States, it’s even more urgent. 1 out of 5 children in the U.S. die from firearms — a truly appalling statistic. Unfortunately, this holiday will only make a small dent towards lowering that number, but sane gun ownership has to begin somewhere.
D-Day (June 6th)
Although we have D-Day as an American holiday, it’s actually a holiday that should be observed around the world. Not only because the troops that landed on the beaches of Normandy were not only from the United States but from a number of other countries as well, it’s also because this day was a critical turning point of World War II that would eventually lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany.
Random Acts of Light Day (June 13th)
It’s been estimated that there are over 18 million new cancer cases in the world every year. It’s also been estimated that almost 10 million people in the world will die from some sort of cancer over the course of a year. And that’s why we feel that everyone should observe this holiday. It’s a day that to show understanding, caring, and kindness to cancer patients, especially those who are the closest to us.
World Blood Donor Day (June 14th)
This international holiday is observed to raise awareness about the need for blood donation around the world and to encourage all global citizens to donate blood. It’s been estimated that almost 120 million blood donations are collected every year, but that’s far from enough to meet global demand. That’s why we all should be responsible and donate blood on this day. We never know when the day will come that we will need the blood donated by someone else after an emergency or accident.
World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (June 17th)
Although some people seem to have their heads buried in the proverbial sand, the fact of the matter is that world desertification and drought are real problems. They lead to famines and they place pressure on the infrastructures of many nations around the world — including the United States. That’s why it’s important for all of us to do what we can to solve this problem, and a good place to start is by celebrating this June holiday.
International Asteroid Day (June 30th)
International Asteroid Day is a holiday that takes place on the anniversary of the 1908 Tunguska Event. You know, the event that wiped out a large segment of forest due to a 12-megaton explosion caused by an asteroid collision. It’s a stark reminder that we humans need to be aware that asteroids pose a real risk not only to us but to the entire planet, so we should always be working towards developing better asteroid detection systems.
Father’s Day (Multiple Dates)
This is a holiday that’s celebrated all over the world, and it’s an important one. After all, we should take the time to honor our fathers. They brought us into the world and taught us the important lessons that we needed to know. So let’s make sure that we honor our fathers on this day. And there are about a hundred ways to show Dad that we care, but probably the most important way is to just tell them thanks for all that they do.
