We wanted to avoid picking religious holidays, because they are personal to each group of people, and we wanted to choose holidays with either the widest possible appeal or the ones that addressed a particular safety issue. National SAFE Day (June 4th)

This is the one holiday on our list that goes against our holiday criteria for this post. We say that because this is a holiday that encourages people to properly store their firearms in a safe place where their children can’t get to them. Although gun safety is important regardless of what country a person lives in, in the United States, it’s even more urgent. 1 out of 5 children in the U.S. die from firearms — a truly appalling statistic. Unfortunately, this holiday will only make a small dent towards lowering that number, but sane gun ownership has to begin somewhere.

D-Day (June 6th)

Although we have D-Day as an American holiday, it’s actually a holiday that should be observed around the world. Not only because the troops that landed on the beaches of Normandy were not only from the United States but from a number of other countries as well, it’s also because this day was a critical turning point of World War II that would eventually lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Random Acts of Light Day (June 13th)

It’s been estimated that there are over 18 million new cancer cases in the world every year. It’s also been estimated that almost 10 million people in the world will die from some sort of cancer over the course of a year. And that’s why we feel that everyone should observe this holiday. It’s a day that to show understanding, caring, and kindness to cancer patients, especially those who are the closest to us.

World Blood Donor Day (June 14th)

This international holiday is observed to raise awareness about the need for blood donation around the world and to encourage all global citizens to donate blood. It’s been estimated that almost 120 million blood donations are collected every year, but that’s far from enough to meet global demand.
