National Insurance Awareness Day

National Insurance Awareness Day is a holiday that’s observed annually on June 28th and encourages everyone to review the insurance coverage documents they have. It’s important to review your insurance documents at least once a year. Why?

To ensure that you have adequate coverage, that policies haven’t been altered by the insurance company, and to capitalize on any available discounts. It’s also beneficial to review insurance documents for comparison shopping to ensure you’re getting the best insurance deal possible.

The History of National Insurance Awareness Day

Although many people consider insurance a modern invention, it has been around for thousands of years. Ancient civilizations such as the Greeks, Romans, and Babylonians had systems comparable to insurance that protected traders and merchants from financial liability in the event of a loss.

These insurance systems were rudimentary, but they managed to serve their intended purpose. During the 17th century, the modern insurance industry emerged. In 1688, Lloyd’s of London was established as the first modern insurance company.

They initially provided marine insurance to protect ships and cargo against losses at sea. Eventually, they expanded their operations to include other forms of insurance. As they grew, other insurance companies emerged, and the insurance industry was born.

Unfortunately, the history of National Insurance Awareness Day is not as clear as the history of the insurance industry itself. Despite extensive searches on the Internet, we couldn’t determine who created this holiday, when it was created, or why.

We can speculate that the insurance industry may have created this holiday at some point, but we have no concrete evidence to support this claim.

Observing National Insurance Awareness Day

We encourage everyone to review their individual insurance policies on this day to determine if they need to update, change, or replace their policies.

People’s insurance needs change, insurance companies adjust their terms and conditions, and sometimes better insurance products enter the market. Individuals need to be flexible enough to make changes when necessary, but they must also understand what they currently have.

This is the perfect day for people to evaluate their insurance products and ensure they have what they need for their purposes. To spread the word about this holiday, people can use the hashtag #NationalInsuranceAwarenessDay on social media.
