Serendipity Day
Serendipity is the development of events by chance that end up being positive or beneficial to a person. It’s happy accidents, a chance encounter that turns into love or finding a lottery ticket that proves to be a winner. It’s the perfect alignment of elements that allows unexpected lovely things to happen to a person.
Of course, serendipity is always a rare event, which is what makes it so special when it does show up. And because by definition it’s a lucky happenstance, it’s a day that many people love to celebrate. People can now celebrate this occurrence by observing the holiday Serendipity Day on August 18th.
The History Of Serendipity Day
The word “Serendipity” is a word that is derived from the word “Serendip” which was coined by English writer Horace Walpole in 1754. It was based on the Persian story of The Three Princes of Serendip, who are always discovering things by happy accident.
Unfortunately, while we have been able to trace the history of the word Serendipity back to the 18th century, we are unable to do the same for this holiday. We don’t know who created it or even why they created it. Perhaps it was just serendipity? We just don’t know, do we?
Observing Serendipity Day
We’re not sure if there’s actually a way to celebrate this holiday. As we stated earlier, there’s really no definition for this holiday. The creators of this holiday didn’t leave an explanation for the purpose of this holiday, so all we can do is theorize.
So, we’ll guess that is what we’ll do. We imagine that this holiday was created to allow people to open themselves up to the possibility of serendipity. No purpose can make it happen because serendipity by its very nature is random, but we can be prepared for it when it does come around.
Perhaps that is what this holiday wants us to do. If anyone has any other possibility as to how this holiday may be celebrated, let us know by using the hashtag #SerendipityDay on social media.
