Constitution Day in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is a country that was a former Soviet republic and is located in Central Asia. It is a country of over 34 million people and is situated on the ancient trade route that linked Asia with the Mediterranean, the Silk Road. It is also a country that adopted its constitution after the fall of the Soviet Union.
The holiday that commemorates the country’s adoption of its own constitution is known simply as Constitution Day, and it is observed annually on the 8th of December. This day is a public holiday in the country, so it is not only a non-working day for most people, but schools, businesses, and government offices are also closed on this day.
The History Of Constitution Day In Uzbekistan
In 1990, the Soviet Union broke up, and several former republics decided to draft their own constitutions to become independent republics. Uzbekistan was one of these countries that decided to replace the Constitution of the Uzbek SSR, a document that was adopted in 1937, with a constitution of their own.
For two years, the Constitutional Commission worked on a draft of the constitution. On December 8th, during the XI session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted its constitution. This document is the highest legal authority in the country and helped establish the foundation for the Uzbek state.

This holiday is extremely important in Uzbekistan and is a way for all citizens to demonstrate their patriotism. On this day, there are parades, art exhibitions, cultural events, and political speeches delivered by both civic leaders and politicians. It is also a day that is celebrated with special television programs, sporting events, and educational seminars.
There are also special fundraising drives held on this day to raise money for a variety of different charities. The largest events are held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, but smaller events are held in every village, town, and city across the country.
