Day Of The National Emblem And Flag Of Belarus

Observed on the second Sunday in May in Belarus, the Day of the National Emblem and Flag of Belarus is a day for citizens to celebrate their country and its national symbols. Although this holiday is a relatively recent one, only going back about 27+ years, it is still observed with much enthusiasm in Belarus.

The National Emblem of the Republic of Belarus features an outline of the country superimposed on the sun’s rays rising above a globe. There is a red star above all of this, and the entire emblem is wrapped in flax flowers on the left and clover flowers on the right.

The national flag of the country is a rectangular cloth with two horizontally placed stripes of red and green.

The History of the Day of the National Emblem and Flag of Belarus

In 1995, the standard of the National Emblem and the National Anthem was approved by a decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus on June 7th, 1995, following the national referendum held on May 14th, 1995. The holiday establishing the Day of the National Emblem and Flag of Belarus was decreed by the President of Belarus.

This holiday was established to be observed on the second Sunday of May every year. On July 5th, 2004, the National Symbols of the Republic of Belarus Law was adopted to list the descriptions of the national symbols and their order of use.
