National Caramel Popcorn Day
Some days of the year seem less significant than others, but we’re not putting National Caramel Popcorn Day in that mix. This delicious snack is essential for movie time, and to be honest, just about any time really. But why does it have a day dedicated to it? We’re going to find out, and more.
History of National Caramel Popcorn Day
You may see it everywhere you go now, but as long as you know that April 6th is National Caramel Popcorn Day, then all is well. Sure, it is a regular sight and smell at the ball game, and although January has its own National Popcorn Day, this is a little more specific. We couldn’t blame you for going out to the store now to pick up a share-size bag – you wouldn’t be the only one to do so!
Although the origins of the day are not well-known, you can trace caramel popcorn back to the 1890s. It was the brand Cracker Jack that popularized it and even introduced it at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893 – an excellent marketing technique of the time. This is how the likes of ice cream became popular (yes, they all had to start somewhere!)
Nowadays, this is not a unique product per se, and various brands are making their own version. Still, you cannot beat homemade when it is done right. The grocery store is one of many places it can be found, with plenty of artisan producers making it. Popcorn itself seems to be having a bit of a heyday at the moment. There are so many unique flavors and varieties, but trust caramel popcorn will never be replaced.
How To Observe National Caramel Popcorn Day
There is an obvious way to celebrate this day – grab some caramel popcorn and eat it! Better still, get some friends over, have a movie night, and share some. Otherwise, the kids aren’t going to complain about there being an ample supply in the house.
Why not get hands-on and make your own? There are plenty of recipes online, and the process is likely to be easier than you think. You can’t beat the smell of caramel as it is warmed up, and that crunch… okay, it’s enough to make one hungry.
Maybe on April 6th, you can see what local sports are on and get to a game and have some of the authentic ball game popcorn. Why not grab some from a local brand and sing their praises online? This will help them in ways you may not even understand. Use the hashtag #NationalCaramelPopcornDay and be sure to tag the brand – it may lead to more sales for an independent business.
Alternatively, just use the hashtag to see how others are celebrating the day and get involved any way you can. This is one of the more delicious days of the year, so it would be a shame to miss out. For a snack that dates back to the 1890s, it is great to see it get some recognition.
