National Dissertation Day

National Dissertation Day is a holiday that’s observed every April 26th and serves as a reminder to students to stay on track and to finish their dissertation. Every year, only half of the students in the United States who are enrolled in doctoral programs will actually earn their doctoral degrees.

That’s approximately 50,000 students who drop out of their doctoral program because they were unable to finish their dissertations. So students are encouraged on this day to pull everything together, complete their dissertation and finish their education. It’s estimated that people who have their doctoral degrees will have a significantly higher wage than those people who only have a master’s degree.

The History Of National Dissertation Day

This holiday was first proposed by Dr. Russell Strickland in 2018. He was the founder and CEO of Dissertation Done and he wanted to create a holiday that emphasized the importance of a person finishing their dissertation. It’s been a holiday that’s been celebrated ever since.

Tips For Writing The Best Dissertation

Below are some tips that we’ve gleaned from some of the best dissertation coaches in the business on how students can create the best thesis they can. We hope that it helps everyone complete their dissertation and obtain their advanced degree.

  • Pick a good dissertation advisor.
  • Pick an interesting theme on your topic.
  • Gather all of your notes before starting.
  • Don’t think that you need to use all of your research notes.
  • Take frequent breaks, but don’t procrastinate.
  • Revise your paper after writing your first draft.

Observing National Dissertation Day

The logical way to celebrate this holiday is by taking the time to at least begin the completion of your dissertation. It’s estimated that the dissertation process costs approximately $40,000 per year, so it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to put it off for several years. Everyone should get their dissertations completed so they can earn up to $20,000 more a year than they otherwise would with just a master’s degree.
