Birthday Of The Sultan Of Pahang
The Birthday of the Sultan of Pahang is a state public holiday in the Malaysian state of Pahang that is observed annually on the 30th of July. It was originally observed on the 24th of October, but that date was changed with the installation of a new Sultan, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The date of the holiday was changed because every time a new Sultan is proclaimed, the date of this holiday is moved to that person’s birth date. With that being said, because this is a public holiday, it is observed as a day off for the general population, and many schools, government offices, and businesses are closed.
The History of the Birthday of the Sultan of Pahang
Prior to 2019, this holiday was observed on October 24th. That was because the birth date of Sultan Muhammad V was in October. This changed when Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah became the Sultan of Pahang on January 31st, 2019.
Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was born on July 30th, 1959, in Pekan, Pahang, in Malaysia. The date was changed to that date and will continue to be held on that date during his reign. When a new Sultan is proclaimed, then the date on which this holiday is celebrated is likely to change as well.
Observing the Birthday of the Sultan of Pahang
This holiday is observed with public birthday celebrations all across Pahang, but particularly in the city of Kuantan. This city is the eighth-largest urban agglomeration by population in all of Malaysia and is not only the royal capital but also the official seat of the Sultan of Pahang.
Common celebrations include parades, cultural festivals, art exhibitions, concerts, and other such events. It is also a good day for people to enjoy time with their friends and family members and enjoy regional dishes such as Penang Char Koay Teow, Nasi Lemak, and Wantan Mee.
