National Siamese Cat Day

Every year, April 6th is celebrated as a cat holiday. Actually, if we’re being completely accurate, it’s a holiday dedicated to one particular type of cat: the Siamese cat. Yes, this day is celebrated as National Siamese Cat Day—a day during which owners of this special breed can enjoy time with them.

Why are Siamese cats such a special breed? They are considered special because they are loyal, loving, and crave human companionship, even beyond what ordinary cats desire. Of course, owners of other cat breeds may disagree with the sentiment that these cats are special, but we’ll just leave it to cat lovers to decide the issue amongst themselves.

The History of National Siamese Cat Day

According to historical sources, Siamese cats first arrived in Europe in the late 19th century. They were a gift from the King of Siam to an English consulate general. Of course, the holiday celebrating this breed wouldn’t be created at this time.

It was created in the United States in 2014. This is when Jace Shoemaker-Galloway decided to invent the holiday. It has been observed ever since, although it’s really only popular among people who actually own Siamese cats.
