As Young As You Feel Day

When people are young, they tend to have a definitive age in mind when they believe old age begins. Some people believe the beginning of the end is when a person is in their 60s, while others might think that old age sets in in the 70s or 80s. The truth of the matter is that the senior years don’t have a specific time when they begin.

That’s because age is a construct, and we’re only as old as we feel. To highlight this very important point, someone went ahead and created a day called As Young As You Feel Day. This holiday is observed annually on March 22nd and reminds all of us to live our best lives and to inject a little bit of youthful enthusiasm into our lives.

The History of As Young As You Feel Day

This holiday, like so many other holidays created in the past few years, was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy. This site has been coming up with fantastical, and honestly, sometimes crazy holidays over the past few years.

Some of these holidays include Memento Mori on January 3rd, Satisfied Staying Single Day on February 11th, and Forgive Mom & Dad Day on March 18th. The holiday we’re talking about today, As Young As You Feel Day, was created to encourage people to stop living according to their chronological age and instead put a little bit of pep into their step.

Some Quick Facts About “Old Age”

Although we don’t agree with the term “old age,” we do think that it’s useful if we examine it as an idea—an idea that millions of people continue to hold onto even though it’s not a scientifically accurate term. We’ve listed a few facts about so-called old age so that everyone can understand that age is just a number, but there are some things that people need to think about as they age.

  • Only 3.6% of people over the age of 65 are in nursing homes.
  • By the age of 75, about 33% of men and 50% of women don’t get any physical activity in their daily routines.
  • Elderly people occupy approximately 33.3% of all federally subsidized housing.
  • U.S. poverty rates are highest for people over the age of 64 years.

Observing As Young As You Feel Day

This is a day for people to forget their chronological age and live life to its fullest. Remember, no one is too old to enjoy the things they love. They just need to get out there and start living their life. People are also encouraged to spread the word about this holiday using the hashtag #AsYoungAsYouFeelDay on social media.
