National Acai Bowl Day

Celebrated annually on April 6th, National Acai Bowl Day is a holiday that celebrates a breakfast sensation that has recently been sweeping the U.S. These bowls are made from a combination of a variety of ingredients that may include fresh fruit, seeds, nuts, granola, peanut butter, and, of course, acai berries.

A quick search of the internet will reveal dozens of recipes for these bowls, so a person could technically eat them for all three meals on this holiday. And who wouldn’t want to do just that? These bowls are not only delicious, but they’re also chock-full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

The History of National Acai Bowl Day

Although many people believe that this holiday began as a result of the smoothie craze that began in the U.S. during the first part of the 21st century, it actually started much sooner than that. It was created by Americans Ryan Black, Jeremy Black, and Edmund Nichols after they returned from a trip to Brazil.

While they were in that country, they discovered acai bowls and decided to bring the recipe back to the United States in the late 1990s. This would result in National Acai Bowl Day being created and becoming a popular holiday among acai and health food enthusiasts.
