National Drink Beer Day

National Drink Beer Day is a holiday that is celebrated annually on September 28th. The purpose of this unofficial holiday is implied quite literally by its name. This day is celebrated by drinking your favorite beer with friends and family. It’s a holiday that shouldn’t be confused with National Beer Day, which falls on April 7th.

History of Beer & National Drink Beer Day

While no one really knows who created National Drink Beer Day, it is believed that beer dates back to what is now Iran in the 5th century B.C. Many historians credit the technology used in the making of bread and beer as the technologies that made human civilization possible.

During the first century B.C., Roman legions introduced beer to all parts of Europe. It then began to spread across Europe during the first through fifth centuries, thanks in part to monasteries brewing beer. Beer quickly spread throughout the Middle East and all across Asia and Africa.

Each civilization makes its beer in its own way. In Africa, millet was used. In China, wheat was used, and in Russia, rye was used to make beer. In Egypt, an early beer was made using barley. Today, beer is a very important beverage to the public. It’s an especially popular drink in the United States.

In 2015, the U.S. beer industry alone shipped over 206 million barrels of beer. U.S. consumers spend more than $100 million dollars on beer every year. A sampling of the beer varieties that are now available worldwide includes ales, pale ales, lagers, stouts, wheat beers, pilsners, porters, brown ales, pale lagers, mild ales, barley wines, American pale ales, cream ales, cask ales, rye beers, trappist beers, steam beers, scotch ales, malt liquors, Kentucky common beers, American amber ales, Irish stouts, Indian pale ales, Vienna lagers, and Gose beers.

However, this is only a partial list; there are many other different types of beer on the world market today.
