National Hairstylist Appreciation Day

Always tip your hairstylist; that’s a given, but if you want to make them feel even more appreciated, be sure to acknowledge National Hairstylist Appreciation Day. This isn’t about quirky hairstyles; it’s about the people behind who make us look and feel good about ourselves, and it is celebrated on April 30th every year. There is an element of celebrating the unique styles that come with it, but at the heart, it’s always the person with the skills to make the latest trends come to life who matters most.

The History of National Hairstylist Appreciation Day

No one really knows how this day came to fruition, but we are glad it did. The history of haircuts might be more interesting. Although scissors are known to be thousands of years old, the haircut was not. We have to go back to the 17th century when a wig was a statement piece for the wealthy and could be styled in different ways depending on the fashion of the time. It was around this time that men wore long curls. Still, the Ancient Egyptians were known for cutting hair, with a 180-degree snip across the front.

It wasn’t until the 1960s that new styles such as the beehive, afro, and flipped bob came to be. Nowadays, it seems the undercut and side cuts are as popular as ever. Enjoying a revival, they are a throwback to the styles of the early to mid-1900s, a time where shorter at the sides was the fashion.

How To Observe National Hairstylist Appreciation Day

Even though they see the results day in and day out, it is always nice to show your hairstylist that you appreciate them. They are more than someone who trims and washes your hair; they are agony aunts, keepers of secrets, and heroes and heroines to many. When someone makes you feel as good as your hairdresser does whenever you step outside the salon, why wouldn’t you want to celebrate them?

One of the best ways is to show them you care with flowers. Who doesn’t love a beautiful bouquet?

As always, search for and use the relevant hashtag and get the message out there; share it on social media for all to see and enjoy seeing what others are doing to show their hairdresser that they care.

If you happen to be having your haircut on the day of National Hairstylist Appreciation Day, then why not give them free rein to do what they want to your hair? This can be exciting for you both. Alternatively, a nice bottle of wine and a card of appreciation will go a long way.

Even if you don’t want to spend money, popping into the salon to tell them how thankful you are for all they do will likely make their day. There are many ways to show a hairstylist how much they are loved and appreciated. Pick any of them, and at the very least, just send a text to say you are thinking of them on National Hairstylist Appreciation Day.
