The History of National Hairstylist Appreciation Day
No one really knows how this day came to fruition, but we are glad it did. The history of haircuts might be more interesting. Although scissors are known to be thousands of years in the making, the haircut was not. We have to go back to the 17th century to when a wig was a statement piece for the wealthy and could be styled in different ways depending on the fashion of the time. It was around this time that men had long curls. Still, the Ancient Egyptians were known for cutting hair, with a 180-degree snip across the front.
It wasn’t until the 1960’s that new styles such as the beehive, afro, and flipped bob came to be. Nowadays, it seems the undercut and side cuts are as popular as ever. Enjoying a revival, they are a throwback to the styles of the early to mid-1900s, a time where shorter at the sides was the fashion.
