Never Bean Better Day
Never Bean Better Day is a holiday that falls on August 22nd and celebrates the unconditional love of dogs and all that they do for us. When we first heard of this holiday, we thought it was a day that celebrates “beans,” but it turns out that the “beans” in this holiday’s name come from a special therapy dog named Bean. There’s even a line of “Bean The Dog” plush toys that help spread the love of dogs.
The History of Never Bean Better Day
This holiday was created by The Drager Group, Inc. It was established to recognize the importance of dogs in our lives, especially therapy dogs. As mentioned above, this holiday is named after a specific therapy dog named Bean. Bean shared his love with children who needed a buddy and with sick children. This dog started off as a celebrity canine and appeared on Animal Planet’s show “The Haunted.” As a certified therapy dog, he visited hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehab centers, and schools all over the United States since 2011.
Facts About Therapy Dogs
Are you unclear about what therapy dogs do or how they do it? If you are, then you might want to read this section. In this section, we’re going to cover some little-known facts about these amazing animals and what they do.
Therapy Dog Versus Service Dog
The first thing we’d like to talk about is the difference between therapy dogs and service dogs. A therapy dog is one that’s trained by the owner to work for the benefit of others. Typically, therapy dogs work in schools or nursing homes. Service dogs, also sometimes known as assistance dogs, are trained by a professional service dog trainer to assist a person with their daily life. Seeing-eye dogs are excellent examples of service dogs.
There Are Four Categories of Service Dogs
As we discovered during our research, there are four different types of service dogs. There are Therapeutic Visitation Dogs, Facility Therapy Dogs, Animal-Assisted Therapy Dogs, and Disaster Relief Therapy Dogs. Let’s take a look at each one individually:
Therapeutic Visitation Dog
These are household pets taken by their owners to visit those who are suffering from a physical or mental condition.
Animal-Assisted Therapy Dog
This dog is used by professional therapists to help patients adhere to their rehabilitation schedule or meet their recovery goals.
Disaster Relief Dog
These dogs are trained to provide comfort to those who have suffered great trauma.
Facility Therapy Dog
These dogs are trained to work in rehabilitation centers or nursing homes.
