Own Business Day

Own Business Day is a holiday that’s observed annually on the second Tuesday of October. Also known as I Own My Own Business Day, this holiday points a spotlight on the individuals who work day in and day out for themselves. It’s a day that’s dedicated to those who own their own businesses and acknowledges them for all of their hard work.

Entrepreneurs are the backbone of any country, and help to keep the economy rolling along by providing valuable goods and services, and by providing employment to those who need to work. And that is why we encourage everyone to thank small business owners for their dedication and hard work on this day.

The History Of Own Business Day

We know that METRO AG created Own Business Day and we do know that this holiday first took place on October 11th, 2016. This is when 20,000 participating businesses celebrated it together. The following year, the celebration of this holiday was even bigger — with approximately 100,000+ businesses participating in 24 different countries.

We also know that the second Tuesday of October was chosen as the date to observe this holiday for a number of reasons. One, that date was chosen because it’s free of bank holidays in most countries. Two, the day was chosen because it’s not a busy work day for most businesses.

Observing Own Business Day

On this day, businesses around the world offer a variety of specials that people can take advantage of. All a person has to do is look around for some of the deals. Businesses can choose to take part in this holiday as well if they’re not already participating.

And finally, people can spread the word about this holiday using the hashtag #OwnBusinessDay on social media. This is a great day for people who own businesses to celebrate their successes, and for people who are thinking about starting their own businesses to go ahead and make the leap.
