Food holidays are fun to observe no matter where they fall on the calendar. There are thousands of different food holidays that people can enjoy — holidays that celebrate everything from desserts to soups to BBQ. And we have to say that we love just about all of those food holidays.

We think that they’re all great. However, we also have to say that the food holidays that we like the most are the ones where you can score some free food. Since we’re always on the lookout for a good deal, we were pretty happy to discover that restaurants all across the United States love to offer free food promotions to get customers in the door.

We’ve gathered the free food holidays in the United States that we liked the best and listed them below. Remember to keep an eye out for these deals when these holidays come around.

National Hamburger Day (May 28th)

National Hamburger Day is a holiday that many Americans across the country look forward to celebrating every year. Its placement on the calendar couldn’t be better since it’s observed around the weekend of Memorial Day.

Smaller restaurants often offer free samples and discounted burgers from coast to coast, but White Castle also sometimes offers a free burger on this day. Now the only question left to answer is, do you want pickles with your burger?

National Doughnut Day (First Friday in June and November 5)

Another holiday on which people can find delicious free food is National Doughnut Day. Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’ Donuts, and hundreds of other doughnut shops across North America offer a free doughnut to people who wander in.

Some places might require you to make a purchase, but there are plenty of other places that don’t. Of course, most doughnut shops know that if you’re probably not going to just stick with your free doughnut and will probably order more. We can’t eat just one!

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day (June 7th)

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day is a holiday during which many people can get free ice cream at many shops. However, it needs to be said that some ice cream shops might choose one of the other ice cream holidays to give away free ice cream, so it pays to keep your eyes peeled. After all, there are dozens of ice cream holidays celebrated all year long, so it might even be possible to get free ice cream on multiple days of the year.

National Root Beer Float Day (August 6th)

Do you love root beer floats? If you do, then you might want to keep an eye out for free root beer floats on August 6. Honestly, we only know of one place that has traditionally given out root beer floats for free on this holiday, and that place is A&W, but we’re sure there are probably other places that may participate in it as well.

National Cheeseburger Day (September 18th)

How much do Americans love burgers? Well, there are at least two holidays dedicated to this American food staple, and on both days people can find deals for free burgers. Go out there and get your free cheeseburger on this holiday. Traditionally, restaurants such as Jack In The Box, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s have offered a free burger on this date.

National Taco Day (October 4th)

What’s better than a taco? Well, how about a free taco? Jack In The Box will sometimes give out free tacos on this holiday, but if they don’t, there are a ton of Tex-Mex restaurants across the Midwest and Southwest that do. It might require keeping an eye out for a deal, but trust us, free tacos are out there and ready to be procured.

National Cookie Day (December 4th)

Supposedly, this is Cookie Monster’s favorite holiday, and why wouldn’t it be? After all, it’s a great day to enjoy a variety of cookies including chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin cookies. Too bad there isn’t a place that offers free milk. If there was, then we’d be set.
