National Repeat Day
National Repeat Day is a holiday that’s observed annually on June 3rd and gives everyone a chance to do things not just once, but twice. It’s a good day to have that second slice of pie, to watch the same movie twice in a row, or to repeat the same catchphrases to friends and family. In other words, it’s just an excuse for having some fun and repeating the same things over and over again. Just be sure that while you’re celebrating this holiday that you aren’t driving anyone too crazy with your antics.
The History of National Repeat Day
Unfortunately, we don’t know who invented this holiday. All that we know is that it’s rather a recent one and has only been around for the past few years. We’ll keep looking to see if anyone claims ownership of this holiday, but so far our efforts have been in vain.
Movies With Repeating Storylines
Since one of the ways to enjoy this holiday is by watching movies with repeating storylines, we thought that we’d launch an investigation and see which movies and television shows have a plot where the timeline repeats through the course of the movies. We’ve found quite a few of them and have placed them in the following list.
Groundhog Day (1993)
Whenever people think about movies with recurring timelines, they think of Groundhog Day. It’s the movie from Harold Ramis that helped to popularize the time-loop phenomenon. It features Bill Murray as Phil Connors-a TV meteorologist who seems doomed to repeat the same day for all eternity. As you can guess from the title, the day he’s doomed to repeat (at least until he learns how to change his fate) is Groundhog Day.
Edge Of Tomorrow (2014)
Another movie that we liked and that features a time-loop was Edge Of Tomorrow. In this movie, Major William Cage (played by Tom Cruise) is assigned on a suicide mission to stop almost invincible aliens from killing everyone on Earth. In only a few moments, he’s killed, but he’s also thrown into a time loop. This makes him have to fight the same fight, and experience his own death, over and over again. Fortunately, his fighting skills improve with each battle, and with the help of his ally (played by Emily Blunt), he comes closer to stopping the aliens.
The X-Files TV Show Episode “Monday” (1993-1999)
The X-Files is a television program that features two F.B.I agents who investigate the unexplained and the bizarre, all while hidden forces work towards thwarting their efforts. This is a show that had many different wild scenarios, and a wild one is an episode called “Monday.” This episode was the 14th episode of the 6th season and featured a woman who attempts to change the tragic events that unfold during a failed bank robbery by her boyfriend. As you guessed, the day keeps repeating, so she has to keep trying to get Mulder and Scully to help her change the outcome.
Observing National Repeat Day
Trying hard not to repeat ourselves here, but the best way to enjoy National Repeat Day is to enjoy one of the movies or TV show episodes we’ve recommended, by doing things twice, or by using the hashtag #NationalRepeatDay on your social media accounts.
