Dear Diary Day
Every September 22nd is observed as Dear Diary Day. This holiday encourages all of us to document our lives by putting pen to paper. Although diaries often get a bad rap as something that only teenage girls keep, the fact is that we can all benefit from writing in a diary.
Not only is it a way to record our feelings, opinions, and thoughts, but it can also be used to help us improve our thinking processes. Besides, people keep diaries for different reasons. Some use them to get things off their chest, while others use them as academic journals.
Diaries are also used for food journals, to help improve writing skills, and for keeping track of important events. Diaries are more useful than many people think, so maybe all of us should just observe this holiday.
The History of Dear Diary Day
As some might expect, this holiday was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat.com. This site sells herbs and aromatherapy products, but they’re also known for inventing holidays—sometimes very unusual ones.
Now that we’ve said that, they invented this holiday to encourage people to write down their thoughts and get some things off their chests. It’s now a holiday that’s observed every year.
Observing Dear Diary Day
Obviously, keeping a diary is the main way that people can observe this holiday. As we’ve said previously, it doesn’t have to be a diary that journals their feelings, however. It can be a writing journal, a food diary, or just about anything else a person wants to write down.
The purpose of this holiday isn’t to force people to keep a particular type of diary but to open them up to the fact that keeping a journal can be very beneficial in a person’s day-to-day life.
While people are creating their diaries or writing in an existing one, they can also take the time to encourage others to do the same using the hashtag #DearDiaryDay on social media. Now, let’s all gather our journals and do a little bit of writing!
