International Beer And Pizza Day

International Beer and Pizza Day is a holiday observed every October 9th. As its name suggests, it’s a day when people are encouraged to enjoy a nice glass of suds with their pizza. There are few food and drink combinations that are better than beer and pizza, and this day wants everyone to be aware of that fact.

Regardless of whether you choose a pale ale to pair with your pepperoni pizza, a traditional ale to go with your Hawaiian pizza, or an IPA with your meat and cheese pizza, this day is perfect for you.

We’re going to choose a nice American lager to go with our sausage, onion, green pepper, and bacon thin-crust pizza, but that’s just us. The beauty of this day is that everyone can choose their favorite beer and pizza combinations.

The History of International Beer and Pizza Day

Before we talk about the history of this holiday, we want to talk about the history of the foods represented by this day. Let’s start with beer. This beverage was first created about 7,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. We’re not sure what type of beer this was, but reportedly, it was a lot weaker than modern beers.

During the Middle Ages, beer became a beverage that many people enjoyed. Members of noble families and monks would have beer for lunch, and many people would drink a type of beer known as “small beer.”

This was a low-alcohol drink that people could drink all day without getting drunk. The fermentation of this beer turned unsanitary water supplies into something that everyone could drink without worrying about getting ill.

Now, let’s talk about pizza. It’s believed by many food historians that pizza dates back to the 10th century in Gaeta, Italy. This early pizza wasn’t made with tomato sauce since tomatoes are a native North American fruit and hadn’t been introduced to Europe yet.

Of course, some sources say that this 10th-century pizza wasn’t the first one to be made, that the Romans and Greeks actually made pizza some 3,000 years earlier with honey and cheese. Of course, that pizza may have been more like a dessert item than what we would call pizza nowadays.

As for the holiday of International Beer and Pizza Day, we know that this day was first invented by Nick Saulino in 2016. He invented the holiday simply because he loves the combination of beer and pizza. It’s been a holiday that’s been enjoyed by pizza and beer lovers ever since.
