Secret Pal Day
Secret Pal Day is a holiday that’s observed annually on the 11th of January every year. For anyone who is not familiar with the concept of a “secret pal,” allow us to explain the concept so that it’s easily understandable.
During a secret pal program, people are assigned or choose the names of someone they don’t know very well so that they can share personal information about themselves with them.
Think of it like the concept of a “secret Santa,” except there usually aren’t gifts involved. It’s a way for people in an office environment to get to know a coworker a little bit better or for people to find someone who can add a little bit of levity and laughter to their life.
The History Of Secret Pal Day
Even though we can’t pinpoint the exact date when Secret Pal Day was invented, we do know that as a concept it goes back decades. It was a way for groups of friends, coworkers, or people working for community organizations to get to know someone whom they don’t normally hang out with. These two “strangers” could send gifts to one another, but mainly it was a way for them to share something fun about themselves or some of their life experiences with one another.
Observing Secret Pal Day
Secret Pal Day is pretty easy to observe. Groups of people can simply throw their names into a hat and allow each person to pick out their own “secret pal,” or they can use the Secret Pal App for this process.
Then it’s simply a matter of people picking and talking to their secret pal. While they’re doing that, they should spread the news about this holiday using the hashtag #SecretPalDay on social media. This is a great holiday for people to have an experience that they wouldn’t ordinarily have.
