- 1745: With an army of approximately 5,000 soldiers, Charles Edward Stuart invades England. His troops would later participate during the Battle of Culloden.
- 1837: Holyoke Female Seminary is founded by Mary Lyon. This seminary would later be renamed Mount Holyoke College.
- 1861: The USS San Jacinto intercepts the British ship Trent and illegally arrests two Confederate diplomats – sparking an international incident between the U.S and the U.K. This was later resolved when the United States released the diplomats.
- 1889: Montana becomes the 41stS State.
- 1892: Caucasian and black trade unionists unite during the New Orleans General Strike.
- 1895: Wilhelm Rontgen discovers X-rays after extensive experimentation with electricity.
- 1923: In Munich, Adolf Hitler leads the Nazis in an unsuccessful coup in Bavaria. This incident is known as the Beer Hall Putsch.
- 1933: The Civil Works Administration is unveiled by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This organization was designed to give more than four million unemployed workers jobs.
- 1939: While celebrating the sixteenth anniversary of the Beer Hall Putsch, Adolf Hitler manages to just escape an assassination attempt by Georg Elser.
- 1950:S Air Force Lieutenant Russell J. Brown shoots down two North Korean MiG-15s while he was flying an F-80 Shooting Star. This would be the first jet to jet dogfight in history.
