  • 1775: During the American Revolutionary War, Ethan Allen surrenders to the British after trying to capture Montreal during the Battle of Longue-Pointe.
  • 1789: 12 amendments are added to the Constitution by the U.S Congress. These included the Bill of Rights, The Congressional Compensation Amendment and the never ratified Congressional Apportionment Amendment.
  • 1846: Zachary Taylor leads United States troops to capture the Mexican city of Monterrey.
  • 1890: Sequoia National Park is established by the U.S Congress.
  • 1912: Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism is created in New York City.
  • 1915: The Second Battle of Champagne starts during WWI.
  • 1944: Remnants of the British 1st Airborne Division withdraw from Arnhem in the Netherlands. This concludes the Battle of Arnhem and Operation Market Garden.
