  • 1487: Elizabeth of York becomes the Queen of England.
  • 1667: An earthquake hits Shemakha in the Caucasus and winds up killing over eighty-thousand people.
  • 1758: During the French and Indian War, the British seize Fort Duquesne from the French.
  • 1759: The Mediterranean is hit by an earthquake that destroys Damascus and Beirut and kills approximately forty-thousand people.
  • 1783: During the American Revolutionary War, three months after the signing of the Treaty of Paris, the last of the British forces leave New York City.
  • 1839: The port city of Coringa is destroyed when a cyclone hits India with a forty-foot storm surge. Approximately three hundred thousand people die.
  • 1863: The Siege of Chattanooga is broken at the Battle of Missionary Ridge when General Ulysses S. Grant leads Union forces to rout the Confederate forces led by General Braxton Bragg.
